Ooty is well-connected to the major cities of the country and hence can be reached easily via road, rail as well as air. Though the town does not have its own airport, the Coimbatore International Airport lies at a distance of 96 km from it. You can take a bus or cab and drive your way into the city from there. Railway stations in Ooty include Udhagamandalam Railway Station, Mettupalayam and Nilgiri Mountain Railway. The Udhagamandalam Railway Station is a mere 1.5-kilometre drive from Ooty while Mettupalayam Station is located a bit far i.e. 50 kilometres away from Ooty. The journey to the city via rail is recommended, as it offers breath taking views of the nearby hills.

Doddabetta Lookout – About 7 km from the town centre lies the Doddabetta Lookout, the highest point of the Nilgiri Hills. You can easily reach this point by taking a Kotagiri bus to the Doddobetta junction and walking the rest of the way. Taxis available in the area can take you back and forth from the point at a good bargain. The view from atop is nothing short of magical, with splendid greens sprawled below your eyes.
St Stephen’s Church– This palatial church, the oldest in the Nilgiris, has a rich history. An architectural marvel, the quaint church with its stained glass windows and panelled doors is a pure delight to visit. It is located in the town centre.
Botanical Garden – The famous botanical gardens of Ooty are one of the major attractions of the city. Spangled with beautiful flowers, the gardens seem to be something straight out of a fairy tale.
