Key West is situated approximately 90 miles north of Cuba, This makes it the Southern most tip of the continental U.S. Do you like being “laid back” then you need to come see us.
The beaches can’t compare to Miami, but if snorkeling, diving and fishing are your thing, then this is where you need to be. Though its only about 4 miles (6.4 km) long and 1 mile (1.6 km) wide, with a total land mass of 4.2 square miles, Key West is an island unlike any you have ever seen.
Ernest Hemingway, Kenny Chesney, Harry Truman, Jimmy Buffet, Robert Frost and Ralph Lauren have all decided to make Key West their home and for good reason. It rocks!
Who hasn’t heard the tune “Margartaiville?” by Jimmy Buffett? If you really check it out, it gives you the sensation of “chillin like a villain” without your drink spillin.
Come to Mallory Square to watch the sunset, or take a ride to Dry Tortugas National Park,an archipelago of seven reef islands located around 65 miles southwest of Key West. They were called this by explorer Ponce de Leon, due to the number of turtles (tortuga meaning turtle in Spanish) found on the islands.
Diversity is welcomed and encouraged by the inhabitants of this island and if you want to let your “freak flag” fly high, this is the place to do it.
Like fishing? Key West is the home of the Tarpon. Book a charter on one of the many services available and hang on to one of the biggest adventures you will experience in your life!
Last year, Jan Toule of Beloit, Wisconsin hooked, landed, and released a monster tarpon on Monday, June 24, off the Florida coat Only 300 yards offshore of Anna Marie Island right off the coast of Brandenton.FYI This is Key West, you go girl!
This monster fish was 96 inches long, and 53 inches around when measured alongside the boat. This means it would have weighed an estimated 337 pounds, approximately 48 pounds heavier than the world’s largest on record.
However, it was never weighed on an official scale and was only roughly measured with a fishing rod, so unfortunately the catch will never end up in the IGFA record books. But you and I both know she got it.`
Let’s face it folks, vacations are expensive and you want to get the most bang for your buck. The days of extravagant spending are gone and in today’s world, we just need to breathe every once in a while.
Breathe deeply in Key West and let the sunshine make your soul shine. It just might be the best thing you ever did for yourself and the ones you love. Key West is whispering… “come here.”
